Today commences our Benefits office's Walk Across the U.S. Wellness Challenge! The day also corresponds with the American Heart Association's National Walking Day.
The average person walks only 900 - 3,000 steps per day in the course of their daily routine. A goal of 10,000 steps per day encourages you to be more active and achieve the American Heart Association's recommendation that adults get 150 minutes or more of moderate-intensity physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity each week.
The goal of Integra's challenge is to walk 10,000 steps per day. We are employing a combination of pedometers from Kaiser Permanente and FitBit's track our progress.
We've assigned "steps to get there" to 9 destinations across the United States. The ultimate goal is to get to the Big Apple, New York City, by the end of the challenge on June 30th.
We'll be logging our daily steps into a shared document and tracking visually on a map. For every 50,000 steps taken, employees will be entered into a drawing. At the end of the challenge, there will be awesome prizes given away by random draw!
Here's to the benefits of moving more and being healthy!
